Pure X-Factor Season 1 – Live Audition Tapings (Cont)

Written by:

Hello all! If you remember from many months ago.. I mentioned that I went to one of the live tapings of the X-Factor auditions when they came through Chicago back in May.

I gave a little tid bit about the hosts, but as everyone knows by now, things have changed a bit. Cheryl Cole as a judge is out and Nicole Scherzinger is in. Which in hindsight seems to be the best thing that could have happened. How? Well let me tell you a bit about my impressions of the judges in the during the live audition tapings:

The warm up guy continues a bit of more of his song and dance, and introduces the judges to the stage. Naturally we all know who Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul are, and if you don’t then get out from under that rock you’ve been hiding and look them up, while I focus on the other two judges.

New to the judging panel is Antonio “L.A.” Reid, co-founder of LaFace Records some of the acts that were signed to his label include Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton and Rihanna. He is also a Grammy winning producer and songwriter.

New to American audiences in general is Cheryl Cole, one-fifth of one of the most well known British all-female pop groups: Girls Aloud. She also released a couple of albums in the UK as a solo artist while the group took a hiatus to pursue individual careers.

Now there was a bit of speculation on the seating arrangement of the judges since in the original X Factor production Simon Cowell sat next to Cheryl Cole and in American Idol he would sit next to Paula Abdul… as it would turn out the judges sat as (from right to left if you were watching them on the television screen): Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Cheryl Cole, Antonio “L.A.” Reid… I suppose Simon put his foot down as to which female judge he could handle more.

Speaking of which the chemistry amongst the judges was beyond funny, nothing’s changed much between Simon and Paula except that it seems saner (I can’t think of a better word) in this version as opposed to American Idol. My friend even mentioned that she rather liked Simon now as opposed to his time on American Idol.

Simon did have a habit of resting his right arm across the back of Paula’s chair… Though, nothing really happened because Paula was so focused on the contestants that she would lean rather forward onto the table from her chair.

L.A. gives some really good constructive criticism, and in some cases would be more than willing to go against Simon in the matter of opinion. He seems to have won a few audience points in the process.

Cheryl was the quiet one in the quartet, it was just really difficult to hear her at all, let alone understand what she was trying to say. She came off as really reserved (a British trait?), and didn’t seem to add much to the panel of criticism except just echoing or repeating what some of the other judges were saying.

When I first heard that Cheryl was leaving and Nicole was taking the fourth judges spot, I have to say that I was thrilled. Nicole is a more “known” name in the U.S. and she definitely had a lot of energy as a host, let’s just hope that the energy migrated from her hosting position to that of being a judge.

More to come (hopefully not in a couple of months) as we anticipate the Series Premiere of X-Factor.

X Factor 1 – Paula Abdul Officially Confirmed As New US X Factor Judge: Simon Cowell Thrilled

Written by:

US Weekly is officially reporting Paula Abdul as the fourth and final judge to join Simon Cowell, Antonio “L.A” Reid, and Cheryl Cole on the X Factor. Today, all four judges showed up on the Red Carpet to celebrate the US X Factor’s first taping. Simon and Paula are beyond excited on their reunion. Read more in a take below and at the link. Picture above from the official X Factor Facebook page.

“This show would never have been the same without Paula and I can’t believe I am saying this, [but] I have missed her a lot, and I am thrilled she’s on the show,” Cowell, 51, told Us Weekly in a statement Sunday afternoon, hours after his new series began its first official day of production in Los Angeles.

Abdul — who exited Idol in 2009 after eight seasons — tells Us she can’t wait to start critiquing wannabe singers again.

“I am excited beyond words to be a part of The X Factor,” the 48-year-old Abdul said in a statement. “I couldn’t be happier to bring my love for cultivating talent and performance to such a wildly anticipated show.

“I’m looking forward to being back with the FOX/FremantleMedia family and know that it will be an extraordinary journey — we’re going to have a blast. I’m also delighted and grateful to be sitting next to Simon again…but you might want to check back with me in a week or two!”

And here is a tweet from Paula herself;

I wanted so much to give you a confirmation sooner… Well here it is right now! :)) xoxoP

The Real Paula Abdul

So, who is excited about Paula? I know I am. It’s going to be great to see the fireworks between her and Simon again.

Pure X Factor – The Drama Builds On The Eve Of The First X Factor Taping

Written by:

All eyes on some official X Factor announcements as the show prepares for it’s first taping tomorrow (Sunday). As reported to you earlier, Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Cheryl Cole have been confirmed to join Simon Cowell on the judging panel, but, a fourth judge has yet to be “officially” announced. Though rumors are rampant that Simon’s choice will be Paula Abdul who he has always said he is very fond of.

In other X Factor news, The Hollywood Reporter is “exclusively” reporting popular British TV Host, Steve Jones, and Pussycat Doll singer, Nicole Scherzinger, as winning the jobs of hosts for the long awaited show. Here is a take.

Jones, 34, is unknown to U.S. audiences but he’s hosted big live TV shows in the UK including T4 Music, a popular music series, and As Seen on TV, a BBC One celebrity panel quiz show. He’s repped by the UK’s Independent Talent and John Ferriter in the US.

Scherzinger, 32, is a former member of the girl group the Pussycat Dolls and has appeared on the UK version of X-Factor. She’s repped by WME.

Scherzinger has been widely expected to join the show but Jones is a bit of a surprise. Many news outlets pegged former High School Musical star Corbin Bleu as the show’s host. Insiders close to the show says Bleu was considered by Cowell but his chemistry with Scherzinger was not especially strong. Jones’s deal is said to have closed late last night.

The hosts join previously announced judges Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Antonio “L.A” Reid. The fate of Paula Abdul, who is said to be negotiating to join the judges’ panel, is not clear. As of Friday night, Abdul was still in talks to join the show, according to sources. But the clock is ticking.

To add to all the drama surrounding the official announcments, we have this tweet from Piers Morgan as well. My bet is this is a done deal.

Congrats to Steve Jones on landing the US X Factor co-hosting gig – great guy, really pleased for him.

Official Announcement and Promotional Stills of Cheryl Cole For The X Factor (Photos)

Written by:

Today more official news came out of Cheryl Cole joining the new X Factor judging panel with Simon Cowell and Antonio ‘LA’ Reid. Cheryl has expressed her excitement and is ready to battle it out against Simon. More in a take below from the Daily Mail. Pictures above are some official stills that were also released today of the 27 year-old singer. Be sure to read more at the link.

Cole said: ‘I’m so excited to be taking part in the American version of The X Factor. I absolutely love it here in the UK, and with the talent they have out in America, I’m sure we’re going to find someone very special.’

She added: ‘I can’t wait to get started. I just can’t decide whether I am more excited to find and nurture the talent or for the unbelievable amount of amusement and entertainment I will have watching Simon doing everything and anything he can to beat me.

‘He’s tried to beat me for three years in the UK, and hasn’t even come close. His ego must be so bruised. America is gonna love this.’

LOL to Simon’s ego “must be brusied”! I can’t wait to see them interact together!

Pure X-Factor – Simon Cowell Reveals Paula Abdul And Cheryl Cole As New X Factor Judges

Written by:

In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Simon Cowell has reportedly named Paula Abdul and British singer Cheryl Cole as the new judges he plans to have sitting beside he and L.A. Reid for the new U.S. “X Factor”. More below and at the link. More is to come as well as Simon isn’t finished being interviewed.

Cowell tells me that in addition to himself and Antonio “L.A.” Reid, the chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group who resigned to join The X Factor panel on Fox (and about whom Simon said “was my No. 1 choice to sit alongside me on the show”), he has made up his mind to bring back Paula Abdul beside him and to add a Brit singer convicted of assault who’s unknown to American audiences, Cheryl Cole. Of course, Cowell was once an unknown here, too.

I understand from Cowell that negotiations for Abdul’s deal hasn’t even started and that Cole’s deal isn’t quite done yet. But an insider tells me about Cole that “she’s pretty much a shoo-in for the show” and will be announced as a judge within less than a week. When I asked Simon about all the rumors about “this Cole woman” who judged on the 5th season of Cowell’s British version of The X Factor, he laughed at my description of her. I opined about how hard it is for UK personalities to click with U.S. audiences. Though she has her own widely imitated catchphrase there telling wannabe contestants they are “really, really luv-erly” in her incomprehensible Newcastle accent and has become a UK tabloid obsession, over here she’ll just be another nobody. (As Jennifer Lopez asked recently, “She is a singer, right?”) But Cowell responded: “I never think about it as an American or British audience. I genuinely don’t. I think that’s what’s happened on a lot of these shows now is it’s almost like you’ve got to hire well known celebrities to be a judge. And with Cheryl, when I hired her initially, I’d only met her literally once when I offered her the job on [British] X Factor. I thought she was bright, cute, knew what she was talking about, ambitious. And you meet someone special a few times in your life.. And this girl is special. She’s just got a great ability to communicate. Shes a great judge. She’s smart. It’s just a hunch. If people take to her like the British public did, I think she’s going to do really well in America. And Fox was desperate to hire her.”

I’m so excited on this news. Simon and Paula have great chemistry. I have a feeling Cheryl Cole will add the same kind of chemistry and judging intensity they need to the panel.

Pure X Factor – Mariah Carey Will Join The X Factor To Judge The Judges

Written by:

I’ve always liked Mariah and I’m so excited she is going to be a part of the new X Factor in the U.S. More below on her upcoming role from Rollingstone.

Although Mariah Carey has long been rumored to sit alongside Reid as a judge, Cowell told radio host Jackie Brown the eight-months-pregnant singer will join the series when it premieres in September — but not in the role fans had expected.

“I think Mariah will have a role on the live shows,” Cowell told Spokane, Washington disc jockey Brown on Friday during her 92.9ZZU radio show. “I met her recently and she was on great form.”

Citing Carey’s pregnancy, Cowell confirmed she has been taken out of the running as a judge, but he revealed that the singer had a better idea in mind that would allow her to still take part.

“Her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with,” Cowell told Brown. “She’ll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.”

Pure X Factor 1 – The Judges Will All Compete With Each Other Says L.A. Reid (Video)

Written by:

“The judges will all compete with each other,” Reid told Access Hollywood on Monday in New York of the big twist that makes “The X Factor” different from “American Idol.” “We’ll all mentor talent and then we’ll kind of compete with each other, so you take the likes of me and I’m competing with the likes of Simon Cowell and that makes for interesting television.”

L.A. Reid explains the “X Factor” in depth to Access Hollywood. He also talks of how the judges are in competition on the show just like the contestants. He says he can usually spot when a person has “it” (the “X Factor”) early. All this and more below. The more I hear of this show, the more anxious for it I become. They are going full out! 🙂

US X Factor Season 1 – Simon Cowell Says Paula Abdul Is 100% In The Running To Be An X Factor Judge

Written by:

Recently, Simon Cowell was quoted in saying this about Paula Abdul and if she is in the running still to be a Judge on the X Factor.

Cowell says that ex-“Idol” judge Paula Abdul is “100 percent” in the running. (Her CBS show, “Live to Dance,” tanked this winter.) “I adore her, and I love her,” he says of Abdul. “And it seems like everyone wants her back on [TV]. I met her recently, and she looked incredible.

“As much as it pains me to say it, I miss her,” he says. “I just had a special relationship with her. When she left [‘Idol’], the spark left the show and it was never the same.”

It’s true. American Idol (with an exception to this year) wasn’t the same without Paula. Simon and Paula had a special way about them that made them a powerful, attracting judging duo. He can’t go wrong picking Paula in my opinion.
