X Factor Louis Walsh Describes Simon Cowell’s Best And Worst Qualities

Written by:

Louis Walsh says Simon has the biggest ego, but, if he didn’t have the ego he has, he wouldn’t be as successful at what he does. More below and at STV.com.

“He’s got great instincts, about people and fame, and he never goes for the obvious.

“He’s a perfectionist and works hard, but for all his success, he hasn’t changed.

“He doesn’t even dress well. The hairstyle, the flares, a bit of heel.”

Louis added: “The odd bit of Botox. But he needs it; he’s 51 and it’s called maintenance.”

True or False? I think Louis nailed it. Simon has qualities that can make you love and hate him. He’s not the best dresser either unless he’s attending the Royal Ascot. 😀

X Factor’s Simon Cowell Speaks About His And Paula Abdul’s Chemistry

Written by:

Simon Cowell chatted with Fox All Access about his friend and fellow X Factor judge Paula Abdul. In the interview, he says he always knew Paula would be a judge on the new US version of X Factor. She was in his first choice, but, she still had to “audition”. She did so, and he said their chemistry has never left them. It’s like having a dog. What Simon? Though I see exactly what he means, do you?

Speaking of Paula, today (June 19th) is her 49th BIRTHDAY!! We at Pure X Factor would like to wish her all the best. I have a feeling this year is about to be her best yet!! She looks fantastic too. Here she is stepping out of her hotel when she left Miami this past week.

US X Factor Season 1 – Simon Cowell Says Paula Abdul Is 100% In The Running To Be An X Factor Judge

Written by:

Recently, Simon Cowell was quoted in saying this about Paula Abdul and if she is in the running still to be a Judge on the X Factor.

Cowell says that ex-“Idol” judge Paula Abdul is “100 percent” in the running. (Her CBS show, “Live to Dance,” tanked this winter.) “I adore her, and I love her,” he says of Abdul. “And it seems like everyone wants her back on [TV]. I met her recently, and she looked incredible.

“As much as it pains me to say it, I miss her,” he says. “I just had a special relationship with her. When she left [‘Idol’], the spark left the show and it was never the same.”

It’s true. American Idol (with an exception to this year) wasn’t the same without Paula. Simon and Paula had a special way about them that made them a powerful, attracting judging duo. He can’t go wrong picking Paula in my opinion.

Pure X Factor 1 – Should Simon Cowell Be A Nicer Judge On The X Factor?

Written by:

TampaBay.com has a great interview up with Simon. They werent afraid to ask him anything. Simon addresses questions about ruining the record industry (what? I think he’s helped it, not hurt it?), the differences beween the UK version of X Factor versus the US version, and if a nicer version of judging is working for American Idol this year. A lot of interviewers keep asking Simon about what he thinks about the judging on American Idol now. But, I think Simon needs to keep being his “honest and in your face” self because that’s why we love him. Let American Idol be “American Idol” and the X Factor be the “X Factor”. There is room for both in my opinion. Here is part of the interview. Be sure to read the link because he gives advise to kids auditioning as well and more.

D: And as you go to develop your X Factor, is there anything that you have to change from the UK version to meet American tastes, or does it pretty much translate?
C: It pretty much translates. I mean, some of the stuff I was going to do on the show last year, I kinda held back because … like we just discussing, it’s such a competitive business, this. If you do something and it’s on, I guarantee somebody else will do it afterwards. It’s just one of those things. We had four producers working on X Factor last year for the first time, Idol has four producers working on Idol for the first time this year. It’s just one of those things.

D: You know, some artists have complained about X Factor – Roger Daltrey, for instance – saying you ruined the music industry.
C: Well, I’ve never understood really what their issue was. I mean, there was one time people were complaining ‘cause we kept other people off the charts and you go, well, the chart is an endless chart now. It changes every hour, so that’s not true. We’re getting people back into record shops. I think it’s just a question turning into a grumpy old man, particularly somebody like Roger Daltrey. You know, like, when your dad years ago would say, turn the music down. I don’t like it, you know … and just being irritable and grumpy. I think he was just a bit of that, to be honest with you.

D: What does it take, though, to sell records in this modern economy?C: Well, to be honest with you, I actually feel quite optimistic at the moment. I think it’s a good time for music now. You know, it’s interesting looking at the ratings of the Grammys this year. You know, they were really big, very healthy, and I think there’s just an interesting breed of artists who’ve come along. Whether you like him or not, Justin Bieber is encouraging a whole new generation of fans to buy music and download music, Willow Smith the same thing. And then on the other side of the equation, you’ve got someone like Susan Boyle, who’s getting people back into places like Wal-Mart to buy records, physical copies of CDs, which doesn’t happen as much anymore. So I only see this as a positive thing, and this show has to reflect, you know, all of those artists I mentioned. You have to cover all the different areas and be as broad-minded as possible.

D: I remember when TV used to look down on the music industry, and now that seems to have changed. American Idol rules television as well as records. Do you feel that shift, too?
C: Well, totally, and one of the reasons is why I made Idol in the first place. I got so fed up with having to beg to get my artists on TV shows ‘cause, as you said, there were so few spots available and the spots were terrible, and there weren’t really many big enough shows, really, to make a difference. And that was one of the reasons why we made the show – that we could own the platform, so to speak.

D: You watch how Idol’s unfolding this season. And people are making a lot of the fact that the judges seem to be nicer. As somebody who’s watched the show, I sort of feel like they’re tolerating performances that you wouldn’t have. (laughter)
C: I know what you mean.

D: But what do you think about that notion of niceness versus your sort of in-your-face honesty? Has the game changed a little bit in that respect?
C: Idol has, yes. And I think everybody’s happy with that decision. They’re happy with it, I’m happy with it, and I think it’s gonna make . . . well, you’re gonna see the obvious difference when X Factor comes on because it’s not gonna be like that – not intentionally but it won’t have that kind of apple-pie, constantly smiling, whatever it is. I just couldn’t make a show like that, to be honest with you. But, like I said, I’m not knocking them. I mean, they’re happy doing it that way. It’s just not what I would do. So I think it’s gonna be good, really, because it means that, you know, X Factor will feel and look very different to Idol now, which is a good thing.

X Factor – Simon Cowell Says X Factor “will be bigger and better than anything you’ve seen before” (Video)

Written by:

Here is a great new interview from Access Hollywood where Simon gives us a birds eye preview for what’s to come in the US. He says the show “will be bigger and better than anything you’ve seen before”. It’s going to be “more extreme, more exciting, and more fun” or he wouldn’t even be doing it. I didn’t realize before viewing this video that the auditions have an audience. Wow, gear up all. The pressure and power of the “X Factor” is building! 🙂

Pure X Factor 1 – Julianne Hough & Jesse McCartney: Rumors They Auditioned For New US ‘X Factor’ Judge

Written by:

TV3 is reporting Julianne Hough met with Fox executives earlier this week to audition as a new X Factor judge. I hope this rumor is true? I’d love to see Julianne take this role. But, as followers to her know, Julianne is filming a new movie with Tom Cruise (“Rock Of The Ages”) which starts filming in May. Being the UK is famous for making up idiotic tabloid stories and being Julianne will be busy with the new movie during auditions this Spring and Summer, it’s unlikely this rumor is true. But, you never know (since Simon has confirmed he likes to feed the press with possible contenders in the running as well) which is why we decided to post on it to cover all bases. Singer Jesse McCartney also met with the executives. More details below.

The former ‘Dancing With The Stars’ professional dancer and country music star – who is dating ‘American Idol’ host Ryan Seacrest – held meetings with Fox executives earlier this week although she could face competition from singer-songwriter Jesse McCartney, who has also met with show bosses.

Both candidates have links to the show as Simon Cowell is an admirer of Jesse, who co-wrote his protege Leona Lewis’ single ‘Bleeding Love’, while rumoured judge Cheryl Cole is close to Julianne through her relationship with the dancer’s brother Derek Hough.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Simon believes Jesse has the right look for the show, and would appeal to both grandmothers and young girls. While Julianne looks fantastic on camera and has quite a high profile in the states.

“Cheryl would love Julianne to be involved as they’ve met through Derek. She would like a friendly face on board.”

Simon has recently revealed choosing the final judging panel is giving him sleepless nights because he and his production team keep changing their minds about who to have alongside himself and music producer LA Reid.

He said: “The truth is that the reason we haven’t announced the panel yet is that nobody can agree. New people keep coming along every week who we want to see.

Poor Simon. If true, it sounds like he is having a difficult time with this decision all around. Recently, he confirmed Fergie was in the running as a judge as well. There is growing speculation that Gloria Estefan might be a judge as well since her surprise appearance at the Miami auditions yesterday. I like the idea of these two as Judges as well.

X Factor 1 – X Factor MyStudio Booths: A New Revolutionary Way To Audition In The US

Written by:

Simon Cowell has been doing a press junket today for the US X Factor which begins rolling out a never-before-used feature: an auditioning booth called “MyStudio”. Here are a couple of words Simon had to share on the new studios. As you will soon read, Simon wants to get as many people to audition for the show as he possibly can.

Describe to me this audition booth so I can imagine it in front of me. What does it look like and what does it do?
It’s like magic. You walk in and you’re transformed into a pop star as you walk out. It was shown to me last year. They sent me a DVD presentation and I was just blown away by this thing.

In terms of dimensions I think it’s about 8 to 10 feet square, so it’s quite big. And the technology it has in there, it gives you the chance to record your voice … It’s just a really, really good audition tape process.

If you’ve never been in a recording studio before they’ve got people there who will help you. It just is very cool. It’s a great chance if you can’t make any of the audition cities, a chance to send your audition tape in and you know it’s going to be great quality.

How will this be different from the video upload auditions you accepted in Series 7 of the UK X Factor?
Very different. A lot of those were done as you would normally see on YouTube — bedroom type auditions, where the sound mix isn’t great. There’s nothing in the background. This can sort of transform you into a pop star, this machine.

How will this audition booth content be integrated into the show. Will it be part of the live audition show?
Yeah, I think so. I haven’t totally decided yet. I want to see what the footage looks like.

The most important reason for doing this is — and this is something we agreed with Pepsi from Day 1 — was how we manage to get as much of America to audition for the show. When you choose the (live audition) cities you’re restricted normally to about seven. So there are always parts of the country that feel a bit left out.

So when this idea was presented to us, we showed it to Fox, we showed it to Pepsi, and they loved it. And then we said to the company, “We’re on.” In fact, we’re trying to make more of them and get them into as many cities as possible to make sure cities like yours are represented in the show.

You can read the entire interview at KansasCity.com.
